Handtufting as opposed to handknotting is a faster way to make a handmade carpet. In handknotted carpets each knot is individually inserted by hand and tied around the warp threads. Handtufting is done with a small hand held tool that secures a tuft of wool into the backing material thereby creating the pattern in the carpet. Since more than one piece of wool is used at a time, handtufting is a much faster process although the resulting pattern is not as precise as with a handknotted carpet. Once the carpet has been created it is removed from the loom and the back of the carpet is coated with rubber latex to help hold the knots in place. A canvas backing is then hand sewn on top of the latex so that the back of the carpet has a smooth appearance. Made from a blend of the finest quality hand spun Bikaner and New Zealand wools, our range of contemporary handtufteds incorporate hide, leather, metal, beading and embroidery within the weave of the rug. We stock a multitude of designs that transcend the obvious and the ordinary. At Hali we are relentlessly pushing the envelope of excellence to create enduring experiences that stimulate and pamper the senses. |
