Carpet weaving in France was flourishing in the late 17th and early 18th century. In the tapestry-weaving center of Aubusson, France rugs were made. It is hard to know whether it’s the finest wools, the impeccable designs or simply the extraordinary care in craftsmanship that creates the French Provincial mystique. Over three hundred years ago at La Savonnerie in Paris many of these masterpieces were made for the royal garde-meuble.
