Frank Lloyd Wright was considered to be one of the 20th Century’s greatest architects and was the leading practitioner of ‘Prairie School’ architecture. He spent more than 70 years creating designs that revolutionised art and architecture in this century. Like many architects influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, Wright played upon the natural qualities of materials, melding form and function and perceived building materials as integrated parts of a larger whole. Wright was the pioneer of ‘organic’ architecture, believing that architecture should create a natural link between mankind and his environment. He drew on the Japanese practice of combining interior and exterior elements to achieve a totality within his designs that had never been seen before. Wright’s creative mind was not limited to architecture. He also designed furniture, rugs, textiles, art glass, lamps and graphic arts. His designs incorporate simple geometric forms in a rectilinear style resulting in some stunning and unique carpets. At Hali we have produced an exciting new range of rugs that are inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright designs from his time at ‘The Prairie School’. |
