William Morris carpets are back and exclusive to Hali. Morris inspired generations of architects and interior designers by revolutionising the art of decoration in the late 19th Century. His tireless campaigning and creative productivity revived the status of decorative art, drawing attention to the value and beauty of fine crafts and revolutionising public taste. He was the forefather of the Art and Craft movement and would later be an inspiration to Art Nouveau. Many of his textile designs, carpet patterns, and wallpaper prints are still being produced to this day. Morris''s wallpapers were his best-known output, with complex designs incorporating plants, flowers and birds. Morris also loved Persian and Oriental carpets and maintained that the pattern in carpet design should be “quite flat, that it should give no more than the merest hint of one plane behind another” to avoid the uncomfortable feeling of walking over a surface which stimulated high relief. Our William Morris inspired collection is handknotted in India, using hand spun and naturally dyed wools. |
