Laxmi’s handknotted rug, her own Manchaha, is a beautiful masterpiece that captures her vivid imagination and creativity.
Fascinated by watching different shows on television, Laxmi’s rug is inspired by all she sees, including the TV glitch represented by the distorted patterns at the top.
In a subtle caramel palette, the weaver has created traditional rural designs of shakarparas (Indian sweet snacks), little boxes, and wavy patterns of ‘Leheriya’ and ‘Jhaalar’. She wishes to watch her village on television, which is why she has skillfully woven the imagery of her village on her carpet, including the mountains, rivers and small huts.
