Spotlight on New Zealand Wool
At Hali, we love New Zealand Wool and refuse to compromise on anything less with any of our wool products. This is because New Zealand Wool is both the softest and naturally whitest of any wool variety in the world. It’s natural shine and high lanolin content guarantee that after the dyeing process, it is more vibrant and colourful than any other wool variety.
Wool from New Zealand is also cruelty free as the sheep enjoy a much happier and less stressful life than those in other parts of the world. As such, their coats develop unmatched lanolin and integrity, so their wool needs not be chemically processed. Consequently, our suppliers buy raw wool in its natural state so that it is prime for sorting, hand-spinning and the dyeing.
Top quality New Zealand Wool is sent raw to India, where it is then sorted and hand-spun into yarn for dying and then weaving. Spinning by hand ensures that no fibres are damaged, and the integrity of the natural lanolin is maintained to give lustre and act as a natural scotch guard. As so much extra attention is placed on shearing the sheep in an ethical manner as well as keeping them grass-fed and taking into consideration their general well-being, New Zealand Wool is an expensive alternative to Indian, Sardinian or Argentinean Wool. However, as you can see by our rugs it is worth the extra cost.
New Zealand Wool is a strong, elegant and luxurious product that is breathable and easy to clean. It stays warm in winter and cool in summer, making it ideal for all climates

Hali rugs are made with hand spun New Zealand wool which is the whitest and softest of all the wool fibres. This highest quality fibre gives extraordinary beauty, colour depth and clarity when dyed creating a lustrous and silky finish to our premium range of rugs. New Zealand wool retains the lanolin to help stop stains penetrating the wool, leaving soiling near the surface where it can easily be removed without the use of harsh chemical cleaners. |

Bamboo silk is a natural viscose extracted from the bamboo plant. It is a renewable resource that doesn’t require replanting and can grow up to 23 meters in a year. Cellulose is extracted from the bamboo tree to create a hardwearing silky fibre perfect for rugs. Bamboo silk has the look of more expensive silk, but the cost is much more affordable. |

Cocoon silk rugs will look great for years to come with proper care and regular vacuuming. Silk is produced from the cocoon covering of the silkworm. Jute is a long, soft, shiny plant fibre that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. It's easy to produce, sturdy, and biodegradable so it's the perfect material to use in handmade rugs. Jute is golden-hued with a shimmery shine to it and has a flexibility and bounce unlike other fibres. Jute fibre is 100% biodegradable, recyclable and does not create toxic gas when burned. This means your jute rug can also go straight back into the compost when it’s too old to be of use anymore or recycled in your garden beds as weed matting. |

Wool has such a long tradition as a floor covering material because its very structure makes it ideally suited to this purpose. Even before 500BC it is thought Persian nomads knew about the use of knotted carpets, with their herds of goats and sheep providing high quality wool for this purpose. Wools rich history as a floor covering material means your wool rug will lend an air of unparalleled authenticity and class to your scheme that a synthetic fibre simply cannot match. Wool when dyed excels in both its depth and clarity of colour meaning your wool rug will retain its stylish good looks for longer. Wool is springy and its fibres can be stretched and still easily return to their natural shape which means that wool rugs will last for many years without showing signs of wear and tear. |
